Just a day without electricity and we start panicking like it’s the end of the world. Just imagine those 100s and 1000s of villages that live without these amenities and whose only source of light at night is the moon and a small kerosene lamp.
In an attempt to provide electricity to the villages in Kendrapada district, King Khan, yes you heard that right, has funded a project under NDTV’s Greenathon initiative titled “Light a billion lives” which was implemented by The Energy & Research Institute (TERI). Deriving their source off livelihood from fishing and agriculture, this new wave of solar energy based electricity has surely brought a great change in the lives of people living in Ahriajpur, Banhipal, Okilapala, Palachua, Rangani, Denlasahi and Gupti villages.
For these people, most of whom fall below poverty line, Shahrukh Khan has proved to be no less than a messiah. Each village has near about 500 people but even after 70 years of independence, these people had been deprived of their right to electricity. Where life once used to stand still after sunset, after the implementation of this solar project, Life at these villages start after sunset.
Villagers have been provided with solar lanterns which can be charged with a minimal cost of Rs.3.00 and for occasional users the charge is Rs.5.00 Surely King Khan has made his reel life role in Swadesh comes alive by helping out the villagers with the electricity absence.
The villages have been provided a recharging station plus a solar panel has been installed at every house so that residents can recharge themselves. But what amazes us is that the state government is totally clueless about this project.
Delighted and content with the onset of this project, local ward member Tapas Mandal said;
“Now people are happy and know more about Khan”
