Drawn to the lavish dance numbers featured in Indian films, or just bored with their gym workouts, people are flocking to Bollywood-style dance classes that mix Indian folk dances with hip-hop moves. And the U.S. exercise industry is taking notice.
Long enjoyed by the people of Odisha, Sambalpuri dance-form has now become the talk of the gyms in the US. Popping up in regions of the country where Indian dance forms are new, Sambulpuri dance is just creating good vibes and believe it or not, the Americans are enjoying it by doing Zumba on these songs.
It seems like Anupam Nayak, the choreographer has noticed its popularity and decided to make it a part of a trend toward ethnic-style dances where participants get a workout while learning about new cultures; while Americans have admired our culture and they are happy to make it a part of their life.
The American Council on Exercise says ethnic dancing, is a major growth area for gyms and dance studios. And in the video below you will see a daily workout routine of an US gym where Americans are working out on a Sambalpuri dance number, choreographed by Anupam Nayak.
