Steel Authority of India’s Rourkela Steel Plant initiated Odisha’s first waste recycling project. As a pilot project,a one kilometer distance of road between Rourkela Club to Shaktinagar has been constructed mixing shredded waste plastic in road tar.
After door to door collection of home garbage, plastic is separated at different intermediate garbage stations spread across the Steel Township, which is then collected and transported to an exclusive store at Sector-15 constructed for this purpose. The plastic waste material is shredded thereafter using the facilities of local recyclers, and transported to Hot Mix Plant to mix with the aggregates used for tar concrete.
“We all must say while all eyes are rolling on Bhubaneswar, Rourkela always comes out of syllabus to prove it once again that it hardly requires any attention for it’s achievements and keep on surprising it’s own citizens and set an example for others to follow.”
When the aggregate is heated, the plastic gets coated uniformly over the aggregate within 30 to 60 seconds, giving an oily look. The plastic-waste-coated aggregate is mixed with hot tar and the resulting mix is used for road construction.
India is facing with rapid population growth,in that case waste management is a major problem. Before we dive into the improvements that we have to aware our public to the problem which we are going to face. Plastic is among the most popular and important materials used in the modern world and Plastic is growing disaster for our environment as well most of the plastic are made from petroleum or natural gas that is non renewable resources,Plastic pollutes air, land and water.
Once again kudos to RSP for this great Initiative; While Many Cities Are Fighting To Reduce The Use Of Plastic, Rourkela Is Dealing It With Other Ways!!
