Our strength has always been simplicity and portraying elegance in our works and here is a list of such people, who showed that they had it in them; that they had that fire in them; earned a name and made the state of Odisha proud by bagging the fourth highest civilian award – PADMA SHRI.
This post Is a salute to all those unsung heroes who have taken us higher on the map of awards and accolades and made us flaunt the caps of pride once again !!
1. SHRI GOBARDHAN PANIKA
A Padma shri award winner of 2018, shriGobardhanpanika is a weaver of the ancient technique of weaving – “KOTPAD”. He took up the responsibilities of his family on his shoulders at the age of 12 and helped his father and grandfather in weaving. Soon he became a master craftsman with his dedication and went on to win several awards like National Merit Award, SantKabir and other national awards for his hardwork and contribution to weaving.
“It was a big surprise for me. I had never expected that I will get Padma Shri award. I have learnt the traditional weaving from my grandfather and my father and I am happy that many youngsters are learning this craft and promoting it across the globe,” said Gobardhanpanika.
2. SRI PRAVAKAR MAHARANA
shrimaharana is a National Awardee in Stone Carving and equisite work with stones and was awarded with Padma Shri this year for for Art-Sculpture. Whatever he is today is due to the blessings of his father and his Guru Late Sri SatyabadiMoharana that today Shri Maharana’s works are recognised as distinct and unique by well-known artists in different places.He is a person with strong determination, unending hunt for innovation and boundless creativity who always strives for excellence in stone sculpture.
Having spent his entire childhood in the village, he had an inclination towards drawings and paintings that tempted his visitto different temples to draw sketches of different art forms from sculptures and paintings.
Under his direction “Sati Mata Temple” in Surat, Gujrat and “Jagannath Temple” in Nigeria are being constructed. Also, an 18’ long Buddha statue has already been started under his guidance in Taiwan.
“I have received several awards in my life but Padma Award is something special. This is the biggest recognition of my artistic talent gifted by the God. After the award I feel more encouraged to continue my good work.” said Sri.MAHARANA.
3. BHABANI CHARAN PATTNAIK
A former Indian politician and freedom fighter,Shri Bhabani Charan Pattnaik received Padma Shri this year for Public Affairs for his immense contribution towards his people and he said is even more inspiring.
“Did not expect to get this award at the dawn of my life. Will continue service for the poor and downtrodden till my last breath.”
4. CHANDRASEKHAR RATH
Shri Rath, bagged Padma Shri this year for literature and education, is a popular writer and has contributes tomany best sellers in Odia language.The eminent writer breathed his last ON 9TH Of February while undergoing treatment for age-related ailments.Governor of Odisha S C Jamir, honourable chief minister Shri Naveen Patnaik, Union ministers JualOram and Dharmendra Pradhan, and many ministers from the Odisha governmentexpressed grief over the passing away of the eminent writer.
