India always has been portrayed as a country of snake charmers. India was never a poor country really nor it is now. The only problem lies in our country’s uneven wealth distribution. But it seems some people are really getting a hard time in realizing this simple truth.
We all are quite familiar with the Snapchat. It has taken the internet by storm since the day of it’s launch. In a recent meeting while discussing this app’s user base of 2015, a Snapchat employee raised concern over Snapchat’s slow growth in India as India is world’s 2nd biggest smartphone penetrating country. Cutting that employee in mid-sentence Snapchat’s CEO Evan Spiegel made a statement and we quote “This app is only for rich people, I don’t want to expand into poor countries like India.”
Well it clearly seems that Mr. Spiegel must be going through some serious mental disorder or must be stoned or both while making this statement. He was in his right state of mind or not, but the response he got after his statement gone public is a sweet 16 revenge from us poor Indians.
Internet was flooded with #UninstallSnapchat, #BoycottSnapchat hashtags and Our young Ollywood sensations were also not left behind. Ollywood Actress Supriya Nayak recently urged her followers to uninstall Snapchat & we all love her for that!
What more we can say. While giants like Samsung, Apple, Facebook are making India their second home, there are smaller…much smaller and rather unimportant brands like Snapchat are screwing with world’s 2nd biggest smartphone market. Well while there is still time you should make amends with your User Base in India and rest is upon us Poor Indians whether we want to use your shitty app or not. Check out some of the other tweets!
