Tenders for a 451.44km Digha-Gopalpur highway, which will touch places like Chilika Lake, Konark, Paradip, Astanranga and Chandipur, will be floated around April. The highway is expected to be thrown open to public some time in 2020.
The Centre has approved a 451km long coastal highway running from Gopalpur to Digha in Bengal under its Bharatmala Pariyojana.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing a detailed project report (DPR) of the highway that will pass through Satpada, Konark, Astaranga, Paradip, Ratanpur, Dhamra, Chandipur to reach Digha. Of the 451.44km proposed highway, 6.5km road will be in Bengal.
Under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, the Centre proposes to improve road connectivity in border areas, including coastal boundary. The project involves development of nearly 7,000km of national highway at an estimated cost of nearly Rs 80,000 crore, said an official of the NHAI.
