In what can be called a really grand birth centenary, three of the elite acrobatics team of Indian Air Force will perform in Cuttack to mark the birth centenary of legendary leader and former chief Minister of Odisha Biju Patnaik. It is the for the 2nd time, these elite forces of IAF are performing in Odisha.
Surya Kiran AT and Akash Ganga, two of the three elite acrobatics teams of IAF’s performance had been conducted by the Indian Air Force in January 2010 at the same spot during National Youth Festival which was witnessed by about three lakh people of the twin city of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
Ealier in april of this year, CM Naveen Patnaik wrote a letter to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar requesting him to hold an air show by the Indian Air Force personnel in the State. Afterwards getting the approval from defence ministry, The Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry will organise this much awaited air show at the vast stretch Kathjodi river bed in Khannagar of Cuttack on December 23 of this year.

As we all may be aware, late Biju Patnaik was an aviator par excellence, known for his daring display of courage in evacuating stranded Britishers in Burma to safety during the second World War and also made a daring flight to Indonesia in 1948 for rescuing two key Indonesian Independence leaders from a remote hideout and flew them to India, eluding the Dutch colonial rulers. These fearless acts of Biju Patnaik got him the “DareDevil ” title, which he was famous for.
