After Ex-Police commissioner Alok Verma becoming the CBI Director, Odisha’s Amulya Patnaik was one of the front-runners for the post along with Deepak Mishra and Dharmendra Kumar for the Delhi Police Commissioner post. Patnaik is an AGMUT cadre IPS officer from 1985 batch and currently holding the special commissioner charge in Delhi.
This is the first time ever when an Odia IPS officer will become the Delhi Police Commissioner.
Among some prominent cases that Patnaik handled are the parcel bomb case, the sensational Sarita Vihar kidnapping and the busting of the notorious Asghar gang.
Patnaik is also known for deftly handling law and order situations. He led the police action when a mob had turned violent at an anti Dunkel rally in 1994 as stated by hindustantimes. Patnaik is also credited for launching special units to prevent crimes against women such as the anti-obscene calls cell and anti-stalking cell.
