There’s not even a single devotee who goes to Puri Jagannath temple & come out without having famous traditional TANKA Torani. The ‘Rice’ offered as PRASAD to the LORD which is used for making TANKA TORANI will no more be a part of the Anand Bazar in temple premises.
And with this we all feel emotional as the years old traditional lip smacking drink will not available in Puri anymore.
A notice has been issued by Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) prohibiting sale of Tanka Torani and Rabidi from last Friday. The servitors are quite disappointed over SJTA’s new rule. Worth mentioning, there is no such rule in the temple for selling of Tanka Torani and Rabidi at Ananda Bazar as the two dishes have no justifiable connection with Mahaprasad of the Jagannath temple.
Not only that the authority has also restricted selling of Mahaprasad on road. Meanwhile, a special squad has been formed to keep a close watch over the implementation of the above prohibitory orders and to conduct raid at the Mahaprasad selling market regularly.
As stated in dailyhunt, one of the website servitor Binayak Dasmohapatra has said “Tanka Torani is associated with the feelings of a devotee. It should not be banned in the temple. It would have been appropriate step if the quality of Tanka Torani was maintained. The Tanka Torani prepared by the suaras and mahasuaras should be properly examined before sale. The temple administration should reconsider its decision. The quality of Tanka Torani needs to be tested. The suaras and mahasuaras should be allowed to sell Tanka Torani at Aananda Bazar. The devotees’ sentiments will be hurt with ban of Tanka Torani inside the temple.”
All we can say that with this ban we lost our most favorite and popular drink of Odisha and gradually lakhs of devotees will lose their interest to visit Ananda Bazar.
