Sprint queen Dutee Chand’s inspiring story could soon be splashed on celluloid. Her struggle against poverty, the gender battle she had to fight, and how she qualified for the Rio Olympics against all odds have caught the fancy of a Bollywood production house.
The makers of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag have approached Dutee’s coach Nagapuri Ramesh for a biopic on the 20-year-old from Odisha. If things go as planned, a team from Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures (ROMP) could soon land in Hyderabad to discuss the script with the sprinter and her coach.
In fact, Mehra approached Dutee and her coach N Ramesh through Rupinder Singh, a renowned athletics commentator before the Olympics.
The movie makers are now in touch with a Bangalore-based sports management company who are negotiating the terms on behalf of Dutee. It is at Gopichand’s advise that sports management company came into the picture.
Be it MS Dhoni, Mary Kom or Milkha Singh, sports personalities and their journeys have always fascinated Bollywood. And after Dutee CHand, another biopic on PV Sindhu is on the line.
