Odisha is a state of wonderful places blessed with world heritage sights, beautiful nature & having grandeur, glory & history. But then again the demand of tourism is getting lower every year. To counter the issue and to attract more number of tourists to Odisha; the state govt. and central govt. both decided to work together to develop a tourist circuit in Odisha for the first time.
As we all know that India’s one and only incredible Golden Triangle comprising the three famous cities of India-Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. But now Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik has communicated government’s decision of sharing 50% of project cost with Ministry of Railways, Government of India for a new railway line from Puri to Konark.
This 35 km new line will connect Konark with a rail head and will unlock the tourism potential of this world famous heritage site. This project initially estimated at a huge budget of 310 crore with a rate of return of 11.7% and with the state government’s contribution it shall increase the rate of return to more than 20%, making it an extremely profitable venture for Indian Railways as well.
CMO Odisha stated that “Rail connectivity to Konark shall ensure the much needed rail connectivity of the ‘Golden Triangle’ between Bhubaneswar, Puri and Konark and boost tourism potential of the area.”
Chief Minister urged upon Union Minister for Railways Shri Suresh Prabhu for sanctioning the rail project at the earliest. He also sought a MoU between Indian Railways and Government of Odisha for putting a mechanism in place that ensures timely completion of this small but significant rail link project. After the completion of this project Odisha will become the second place in India to have a Golden Triangle Tourist Destination.
We hope that this positive step in tapping the tourism potential will get completed at the earliest!
