While most of us afraid to take a stand for some one or to save a life putting ourself in danger, this 11 year old kid of Odisha get National Bravery Award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his bravery.
Twenty five children which include 12 girls and 13 boys have been selected for the National Bravery Awards – 2016. The selection which was made by a high powered committee comprising representatives of various Ministries/Departments, non-governmental organisations as well as office bearers of Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW) selected the kids for their heroic act.
The President Shri Pranab Mukherjee himself along with several other dignitaries hosted receptions in their honour. Several States will also organize functions to honour them at the State level. The National Bravery Award Scheme was initiated by the ICCW to give due recognition to the children who distinguish themselves by performing outstanding deeds of bravery and meritorious service and to inspire other children to emulate their example. And this kid is definitely an inspiration for many.
Eleven-year-old Mohan Sethy of Cuttack district saved his friend from drowning in a river. His presence of mind and bravery helped him not only save his friend but also earn appreciation respect from all around.
Mohan Sethy will be granted financial assistance until he complete his schooling. ICCW provides financial assistance under its Indira Gandhi Scholarship Scheme to those undertaking professional courses such as engineering and medicine. For the others, this assistance is provided till they complete their graduation. The Government of India has also reserved some seats for the awardees in medical and engineering colleges and polytechnics.
While his bravery glorifies Odisha and it’s brave-hearts, Narendra Modi appreciated these young heroes by saying “Their deeds of bravery show these children’s decisiveness and courage”- in a speech and honor to these brave kids for their courage to take a stand and risk their life for others.
